A slotted tube resonator (STR) having a shield of conducting circular cylinder which is used as a probe for the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is analyzed by using the variational method and the dyadic Green's function of a circular waveguide. Three surface current modes are employed to expand the currents on the STR. Quadruple integrals appearing in the variational expression are evaluated analytically for saving the CPU time. Resonant frequency, Q value and the magnitude of magnetic field distributions for various radii of the shields are obtained to show the effects of the shield. Some measured date are compared with the theoretical results to confirm the validity of the present analysis.

In this paper, we consider a hybrid satellite terrestrial cooperative network with a multi-antenna relay where the satellite links follows the shadowed-Rician fading and the terrestrial link undergoes the correlated Rayleigh fading. Specifically, two different channel state information (CSI) assumptions are considered: 1) full CSI at the relay; 2) full CSI of satellite-relay link and statistical CSI of relay-destination link at the relay. In addition, selection combining (SC) or maximal ratio combining (MRC) are used at the destination to combine the signals from direct link and relay link. By considering the above four cases, we derived the closed-form expressions for the outage probability (OP) respectively. Furthermore, the asymptotic OP expressions at high signal-to-noise (SNR) are developed to reveal the diversity orders and the array gains of the considered network. Finally, numerical results are provided to validate our analytical expressions as well as the system performance for different cases.

In dense passive radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, code division multiple access (CDMA) techniques can be used to alleviate severe collisions and thus enhance the system performance. However, conventional CDMA techniques are challenging to implement, especially for passive tags due to cost and power constraints. In this paper, we design a CDMA-based multi-reader passive ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID system in which a reader detects only the strongest tag signal and a tag uses Gold codes only on the preamble and the data bits of RN16 without increasing its clock frequency. We present a new communication procedure based on dynamic framed slotted ALOHA (DFSA). In order to optimize the system, we theoretically analyze the system performance in terms of slot capacity and identification rate, and formally show how the code length and the number of readers affect the identification rate. Furthermore, we propose an effective method for tag estimation and frame size adjustment, and validate it via simulations. Through an example, we demonstrate how the analysis-based technique can be used to optimize the system configurations with respect to the number of readers and the number and length of Gold codes.

In this research, a sub-array preconditioner is applied to improve the convergence of conjugate gradient (CG) iterative solver in the fast multipole method and fast Fourier transform (FMM-FFT) implementation on a large-scale finite periodic array antenna with arbitrary geometry elements. The performance of the sub-array preconditioner is compared with the near-group preconditioner in the array antenna analysis. It is found that the near-group preconditioner achieves a little better convergence, while the sub-array preconditioner can be easily constructed and programmed with less CPU-time. The efficiency of the CG-FMM-FFT with high efficient preconditioner has been demonstrated in numerical analysis of a finite periodic array antenna.

A characteristic-based constrained interpolation profile (CIP) method for solving three-dimensional, time-dependent Maxwell's equations is successfully developed. It is utilized to solve one-dimensional wave equations in the formulation of the Maxwell's equations. Calculation procedure of the CIP method for three-dimensional scattering analysis is described in details. Update equations for boundary conditions of a perfectly conducting (PEC) interface and a dielectric interface are formulated and obtained in explicit forms. Numerical analyses of electromagnetic scatterings of PEC sphere, dielectric sphere and PEC cube are performed and the scattering coefficient is calculated and compared with the Mie's analytic results. As a result, the scattering coefficients show good agreement with the Mie's results, which demonstrates the validity of the CIP method and the formulated update equations. It is also shown that the phase of the scattering coefficients determined by the CIP method are slightly more accurate than that of the FDTD method.

MUSIC-based estimation of direction of arrival (DOA) using universal steering vector (USV) is experimentally studied. A four-element array antenna and a four-channel receiver are employed for the experiment. In order to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation, USV which has already included the effect of mutual coupling between array elements and effect of array elements themselves is compensated to further include the electric delay and loss of four channels in the receiver. The compensated USV (C-USV) approach proposed in this paper does not need the time-consuming measurement of array element pattern because the compensating matrix for USV is obtained by measuring the S parameters between RF input ports of the feeding cables and IF output ports of the receiver. The experimental results of MUSIC-based DOA estimation show that C-USV approach is an accurate, effective and practical method for the MUSIC-based DOA estimation.

The effect of wall and indoor scatterers on the indoor multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication system is investigated by using the hybrid technique of finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and method of moments (MoM). MIMO channel capacity with the wall reflection is investigated with consideration of the eigenvalue of channel covariance matrix, the received power and the effective multipaths of MIMO system. It is found that the stronger side wall reflection can lead to the higher MIMO channel capacity. MIMO system with indoor scatterers is also analyzed and compared with the line of sight (LOS) indoor MIMO system. It is found that the scatterer material has different effect on the received power and the effective multipaths of MIMO system.

The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) performance of the modulated scattering antenna array (MSAA) is analyzed numerically for the first time in indoor environment based on an approach to hybridization of the Volterra series method and method of moments (MoM) in this letter. Mutual coupling effect between the Modulated scattering element (MSE) and the normal antenna element is also considered in this analysis. It is found that MIMO performance of the MSAA is improved with reducing the array spacing of the MSAA in 4 different indoor receiving areas. At the same time, the simulated results of the MSAA are compared with those of the dipole antenna array at the same condition.

This paper presents a new and robust framework for real-coded genetic algorithm, called real-code conditional genetic algorithm (rc-CGA). The most important characteristic of the proposed rc-CGA is the implicit self-adaptive feature of the crossover and mutation mechanism. Besides, a new crossover operator with laplace distribution following a few promising descent directions (FPDD-LX) is proposed for the rc-CGA. The proposed genetic algorithm (rc-CGA+FPDD-LX) is tested using 31 benchmark functions and compared with four existing algorithms. The simulation results show excellent performance of the proposed rc-CGA+FPDD-LX for continuous function optimization.

This paper presents method that offers the fast and accurate analysis of large-scale periodic array antennas by conjugate-gradient fast Fourier transform (CG-FFT) combined with an equivalent sub-array preconditioner. Method of moments (MoM) is used to discretize the electric field integral equation (EFIE) and form the impedance matrix equation. By properly dividing a large array into equivalent sub-blocks level by level, the impedance matrix becomes a structure of Three-level Block Toeplitz Matrices. The Three-level Block Toeplitz Matrices are further transformed to Circulant Matrix, whose multiplication with a vector can be rapidly implemented by one-dimension (1-D) fast Fourier transform (FFT). Thus, the conjugate-gradient fast Fourier transform (CG-FFT) is successfully applied to the analysis of a large-scale periodic dipole array by speeding up the matrix-vector multiplication in the iterative solver. Furthermore, an equivalent sub-array preconditioner is proposed to combine with the CG-FFT analysis to reduce iterative steps and the whole CPU-time of the iteration. Some numerical results are given to illustrate the high efficiency and accuracy of the present method.
